What is a hackathon?

In this case, the word "hack" describes how multiple technologies can be used together in new and creative ways. Teams will spend the weekend creating a website, mobile app, or hardware creation. The Spectra team believes that the most important aspect of a hackathon is the community it generates and the skills that attendees can take away with them at the end of the event.

What if I don’t know how to code?

Spectra is the perfect place and time to learn! There will be dedicated workshops and mentors to guide you through your first project. Participants are not filtered by technical background. Our focus is on making Spectra a great event for everyone involved. We welcome attendees at any level. After all, everyone had to start somewhere!

What if I don’t have a team or idea yet?

Not a problem! We’ll have team formation and ideation sessions geared towards helping you find people to work with.

What is the cost to attend?

There is no registration fee for this event. Hack space, WiFi access, food, drinks, and swag are all included.

Who can attend?

Anyone who identifies as female and is at least 18 years old can register to hack! If you're not 18, stay tuned for other events tailored to you.

What do I need to bring?

All you'll need is a valid photo ID (a student ID works), your laptop, and your charger. Also, a pillow and some toiletries never hurt anyone!

When will I know if I'm able to attend?

Applicants will be emailed by July 10th (11:59 PM PST) to confirm their attendance. You will have 1 week to claim your spot. If you do not do so by July 16th (11:59 PM PST), we will offer your spot to those on the waitlist. Make sure to check your emails during that week to ensure that you don't lose your spot!

Will there be transportation?

Accepted hackers have been contacted via email regarding transportation options. For those outside of the SF Bay area, unfortunately we will not be able to provide travel reimbursements this year, BUT we will be livestreaming parts of the hackathon and connecting remote participants over Google Hangouts!
